The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially closed its investigation into the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, ruling out any foul play.
The agency submitted its final report to the Mumbai court, stating that no evidence was found to suggest that anyone was responsible for abetting the actor’s alleged suicide.
Sushant’s tragic death on June 14, 2020, at his Bandra residence sparked nationwide controversy, leading to multiple theories, media trials, and public outcry.
His father, K.K. Singh, had lodged an FIR against actress Rhea Chakraborty and others, accusing them of financial fraud, mental harassment, and abetment of suicide. However, after nearly four years of investigation, the CBI found no proof to substantiate these claims.
Rhea Chakraborty, who was at the centre of the allegations, faced intense scrutiny, was jailed for 27 days, and had to fight legal battles. Reacting to the closure of the case, her lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, expressed gratitude to the CBI for conducting a thorough probe and clearing Rhea’s name. He criticised the media frenzy that followed Sushant’s death, stating that the fabricated narratives ruined innocent lives.
Sushant’s father, however, remains unconvinced. He has long maintained that his son could not have died by suicide and has voiced disappointment over the CBI’s findings. As the case nears its final legal closure, he still holds on to hope that justice will be served.
The next court hearing is scheduled for April 8, 2025, at Bandra Magistrate Court, where the final decision on the case closure will be taken. If the court accepts the CBI’s findings, the case will be officially closed, putting an end to one of Bollywood’s most debated and mysterious deaths.
