In a development that's causing eyebrows to be raised throughout the cricketing world, former international umpire and current national team selector Aleem Dar has been appointed for officiating duty for the forthcoming Pakistan Super League Season 10 (PSL X).

The appointment was made by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), but the move is already being criticized on grounds of potential conflict of interest.

Aleem Dar, whose umpiring has earned him respect all over the world, now finds himself under fire—not for his on-field decisions, but for his ever-expanding roster of duties. His position as a national selector already attracts fire, with many critics calling the current selection panel one of Pakistan's weakest selection committees ever.

Most think that placing umpiring responsibilities on his agenda may not only blur professional boundaries but also compromise the openness of player selections for national service.

The evolution follows the multitasking strategy observed in the existing arrangement, with Mohsin Naqvi playing multiple roles as Interior Minister, PCB Chairman, and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President. Dar's dual position is an additional twist to the long-standing controversy surrounding concentration of power and absence of clear lines in Pakistani cricket administration.

As PSL X draws near, the PCB's move to make a selector an on-field official may raise new doubts among viewers and pundits. With increasing expectations for neater, more professional administration of the game, the question being asked everywhere is: multitasking efficiency or conflict recipe?
