Pakistan has made it clear that it has no intention of responding to the new tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, even though Finance Minister Mohammad Aurangzeb admitted that these actions have caused some concern for the country.
In an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Aurangzeb stated that while the tariffs are indeed troubling for Pakistan, the country has no plans to retaliate. He said, "We all need to think about how to move forward with this new world order, and it's important to discuss this issue."
It is worth noting that last week, US President Donald Trump announced the imposition of new tariffs on several countries, but in recent days, the US decided to delay the enforcement of these additional tariffs for 90 days. Initially, the US had announced a 29% tariff on Pakistan, but this recent decision has temporarily halted the matter.
Aurangzeb further clarified that Pakistan does not intend to retaliate against the US when asked if the country thought it was being negatively affected by the ongoing trade conflict between the US and China. He responded, "The US has been a long-standing strategic partner of Pakistan in various sectors, and our relationship with China is equally important."
Pakistan's stance is clear: the government is working to maintain a balanced relationship with its key allies in global trade and aims to avoid unnecessary tension in the process.
