The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) lost a big name with senior leader and co-founder Senator Taj Haider's death in Karachi on Tuesday.
He was receiving treatment at a private hospital on Shaheed-e-Millat Road when he passed away, his family said.
His wife, Naheed Wasi, confirmed his death in a post on Facebook. She added that the details of the funeral would be provided later.
Taj Haider, the well-known name in Pakistani politics, entered politics in 1967 and was a steadfast PPP worker until his death.
He was also famous for being not only steadfastly committed to democracy but also intellectually profound as well as a litterateur. He got his early education from DJ Science College and was General Secretary of the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP).
Condolences
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was deeply grieved at Haider's passing and termed him as "a symbol of grace, intellect, and creativity." In his message of condolence, Bilawal stated, "Taj Haider's half-century-long political, social, and literary services will never be forgotten. His lifelong struggle for democracy and devotion to progressive politics are an inspiring beacon for coming generations.
President Asif Ali Zardari also paid respect to the departed leader, acknowledging his unflinching loyalty to the party and his position as a "true ideological worker". The President referred to Taj Haider as a precious asset of the PPP and expressed his sincere condolences to the bereaved family, praying for the departed soul.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also added to the condolence, addressing Haider as a "distinguished political figure whose departure is deeply felt by the nation." He appreciated Taj Haider's contributions to democracy and extended his condolences to the grieving family and expressed his prayers for patience and strength during this trying period.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah also expressed profound grief, stating that he and all PPP workers were deeply saddened by the loss. “The passing of Taj Haider is an irreparable loss that cannot be filled,” Shah said.
Shah described Haider as a wise, composed, and seasoned politician who remained committed to democratic values and public service throughout his life.
“Taj Haider always fought for the cause of democracy and dedicated his life to serving the people,” Shah added.
