Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir on Tuesday reaffirmed unshaken optimism about Pakistan's potential to become a world leader in the mineral economy.

Speaking at the Pakistan Mineral Investment Forum 2025, the Army Chief stated that Pakistan invites international organisations to explore investment possibilities and share their expertise in developing the country's enormous mineral resources.

General Munir reiterated that the mineral wealth of Pakistan requires professionally skilled manpower like engineers, geologists, operators, and mine experts. It is to plug this gap that the nation has been sending out students for professional training abroad.

He informed that at present, 27 Balochistan students were being trained as mineral explorers in Zambia and Argentina as part of a strategic plan to hone human resources and expertise in this field.

Emphasising the connection between economic power and national security, the army chief highlighted that economic security is today an important aspect of Pakistan's overall national security.

He ensured that the Pakistan Army will ensure a strong security environment to safeguard the interests and confidence of investors and partners in the mining sector of the country. He also emphasised the importance of investment in value addition and refining within Pakistan to lower costs and diversify markets.

Gen Asim Munir further stated that with mineral reserves at their disposal, skilled personnel, and an open mineral policy, there is no room for despair or complacency. He encouraged local and international partners to move forward with confidence, assuring them that benefiting from their expertise in the mining sector is a collective national aspiration. “You can count on Pakistan as a trusted partner,” he said.

The Army Chief also acknowledged the contributions of Baloch tribal elders in facilitating mining operations and supporting development in the region. He said that through joint efforts, Pakistan’s mineral sector can become a powerful driver of regional development, prosperity, and sustainability, benefiting the nation as a whole.
