COAS Gen Asim Munir’s mother laid to rest

President and PM Shehbaz among high-ranking officials attend funeral

The funeral prayer of Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir’s mother was offered at Race Course Park, Rawalpindi, with a large number of high-profile figures in attendance.

General Asim Munir himself led the funeral prayer, and the solemn gathering reflected deep sorrow and reverence for the departed soul.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, and several federal ministers, including Rana Sanaullah, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Hanif Abbasi, Mohsin Naqvi, Khawaja Asif, and Amir Maqam, participated in the funeral.

Former Army Chiefs General (Retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa and General (Retd) Ashfaq Parvez Kayani also paid their respects. Heads of the armed forces, senior government officials, and civil servants were also present at the funeral.

The Army Chief’s mother passed away on March 24, which also coincided with the 23rd of Ramadan. Following her passing, messages of condolence poured in from across the country. President Asif Ali Zardari expressed his deep sorrow, saying, "I share the grief of General Asim Munir and his family." He prayed for the departed soul’s eternal peace and strength for the bereaved family.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also extended his condolences, saying that the loss of a mother is an irreparable pain. "We stand with the grieving family in this difficult time," he stated, offering prayers for the deceased.

Speaker of the National Assembly, Ayaz Sadiq, described parents as an invaluable blessing and termed their passing as a great loss. He extended heartfelt sympathies to General Asim Munir and his family, praying for patience and strength for them.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Maqam, and Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori also expressed their condolences, praying for elevated ranks in Jannah for the deceased and patience for the grieving family. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif also conveyed her sorrow and sympathy to the Army Chief and his family.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) also extended its condolences. In a statement on its official social media handle, PTI expressed sympathy with the Army Chief and his family and prayed for forgiveness of the departed soul.
