Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has made it clear that its founder, Imran Khan, will not apologise for the events of May 9.
PTI’s Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, while speaking to the media outside the Islamabad High Court, stated that there is no possibility of Imran Khan seeking an apology. He said that those who expect Khan to apologise are mistaken, as such a move is completely out of the question.
Raja further revealed that the matter of meeting Imran Khan in jail has been settled through mutual understanding. However, a strict condition has been imposed that individuals meeting the former Prime Minister will not engage in any political discussions once they leave the jail premises.
He added that authorities warned that post-meeting statements could lead to law and order concerns, but PTI parliamentarians reserve the right to express their views in any public forum.
Commenting on political engagements, Salman Akram Raja stated that PTI is in active discussions with opposition parties, including Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), and these interactions are moving in a positive direction. However, he criticised law enforcement actions on March 23 (Pakistan Day), highlighting that police raids on PTI leaders' homes and disruption of events were a clear violation of constitutional rights and basic decency.
In response to a question about political alliances, Raja remarked that parties such as MQM, PPP, and PML-N are currently benefiting from the existing system. He suggested that unless these parties reconsider their stance, meaningful dialogue is unlikely.
His statements come after the Prime Minister’s Advisor on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, remarked that Imran Khan's release could be possible if he apologised for the May 9 incidents.
