No agenda above national security, asserts COAS Gen Asim Munir

Urges religious scholars to counter extremist narratives

18 March 2025

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir has made it clear that neither any movement, no personality, or agenda is greater than Pakistan’s security.

Speaking to the National Security Parliamentary Committee, he underscored the imperative to turn Pakistan into a hard state, asking how much longer the country can endure due to a soft-state policy.

General Munir emphasised that sustainable stability needs a concerted effort from all aspects of national power. He said, "There is nothing above national security. This is a battle for our survival and that of future generations."

The Army Chief asked how long Pakistan would keep bridging governance loopholes with the sacrifices of its soldiers, calling for a strong state framework to put an end to this chain of loss.

In his speech, General Munir also called upon religious scholars to unveil misinterpreted versions of Islam promoted by extremists. He claimed, "If there is Pakistan, then we exist. There is nothing more important than the security of our country." He demanded national unity and emphasised the importance of a single narrative over political and personal interests to protect Pakistan.

The Army Chief also sent a strong message to those trying to weaken Pakistan through terrorism. "Today’s meeting conveys a clear message: we stand united against terrorists and their facilitators. We will not allow them to succeed," he declared. His remarks reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fighting terrorism at all costs and ensuring national security remains the top priority.
