Ali Tareen, the ardent owner of Multan Sultans, has laid to rest all speculation regarding stepping away from the franchise following Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10.
Describing the team as "very close to his heart," Tareen asserted that he is still committed to the Sultans and their path in the Pakistan Super League.
Speaking after his team’s 33-run victory over Lahore Qalandars, Tareen clarified that he has no intention of abandoning the franchise. “I never said I’m leaving Multan Sultans,” he told reporters. “We’re only reviewing the franchise agreement after PSL 10, not quitting.”
Tareen shed light on the financial challenges the team faces under the current model. “We have the option to renew the deal with a 25% price hike, but at that rate, we’re operating at a loss,” he explained. “So we’re planning to exit the current contract and bid again—hopefully under fairer terms, similar to Karachi Kings’ $26 million deal.”
He also highlighted how previous owners struggled financially before he stepped in to save the franchise. “They were forced to exit due to massive losses. We took over with a vision and now aim to continue under a more sustainable arrangement.”
On the field, Tareen was pleased with the team’s bounce-back performance at home. “After the loss in Rawalpindi, we knew coming back to Multan would make a difference. The coaching staff and I were confident—it wasn’t time to panic.”
Despite the low-key buzz around PSL 10, Tareen said the team draws energy from the Multan crowd. “We told the players they’re playing for the people of Multan. That passion keeps us going.”
Tareen also proudly shared progress on the development front. “Our Tareen Cricket Academies for both men and women are running year-round. A standout is 14-year-old Sheher Bano, who started with no cricket experience and now represents Pakistan in Under-19 tournaments.”
He mentioned that the JDW development squad is performing strongly in the PCB President’s Trophy Grade-II, with a win and a drawn game with first-innings points so far.
Looking ahead, Tareen has big plans to build cricket infrastructure in South Punjab. “We’re planning a stadium in DHA Multan and upgrading facilities in Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalpur. The dream is to create a network that nurtures talent across the region.”
