Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has issued a strong warning to India, firmly rejecting its attempts to exit the Indus Waters Treaty.

Speaking ahead of the crucial National Security Committee (NSC) meeting scheduled for Thursday, Asif made it clear that the treaty is not a bilateral agreement—it includes the World Bank, making unilateral withdrawal impossible.

“They’ve been trying to walk away from the treaty for years,” he said, “but it was signed under the umbrella of the World Bank. India cannot simply suspend it on its own.” Asif emphasized that any such move would be met with a powerful and united response from Pakistan.

The minister added that Pakistan is already preparing a detailed and strategic reaction to India’s recent statements and controversial step to halt water sharing under the treaty.

“The National Security Committee meeting will cover all these issues. Our response will be unified and decisive,” he stated.

Asif also connected this development to India’s broader pattern of aggression, especially following the recent Pahalgam incident in Indian-administered Kashmir, which Islamabad has termed a “false flag operation.”

“Our forces have responded before, and the world has seen it,” he said. “Pakistan has faced terrorism more than any other country, and we have always defended ourselves with dignity.”
