A heated scene unfolded in the Senate on Tuesday when Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar rose to speak during the session.

Opposition members erupted in protest, chanting slogans like “Water theft is unacceptable” and demanding time to raise point objections.

The uproar intensified as senators—especially from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)—stood up and marched toward the chairman’s dais, voicing their anger over what they claimed was being silenced in a matter of grave importance.

Despite the loud protests, Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar continued his address. He assured the House that the issue of diverting canals from the Indus River would not be brushed aside. “There will be a proper discussion on this matter,” he stated firmly.

He further informed the Senate that, on the Prime Minister's directions, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah had contacted the Sindh government to address the growing concerns. “Today, cabinet members will respond to these questions,” he added.

Appealing for order, Tarar requested PPP senators to return to their seats and engage in debate instead of raising slogans. “Let’s resolve this within the framework of the Constitution and law,” he emphasized, adding, “nothing will be bulldozed.”

The session highlighted the deepening concerns around water distribution and interprovincial coordination, reflecting once again how critical and sensitive the issue of water has become in national politics.
