Professor Khurshid Ahmad, a leading Islamic scholar, economist, and erstwhile Deputy Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, died at the age of 93 in Leicester, UK. This was announced by Jamaat-e-Islami's spokesperson.
Renowned for his intellectual acumen and profound knowledge of Islamic economics, Prof. Khurshid Ahmad was a close friend of Jamaat-e-Islami founder Syed Abul A'la Maududi. He wrote a number of books and contributed significantly to Islamic economic thinking.
For his efforts, he was awarded the esteemed King Faisal Award in 1990. He was later in 2011 bestowed the Nishan-e-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan, which is one of the highest civilian honors in Pakistan. He was the first to receive the Islamic Development Bank Award, a reflection of his international contribution towards Islamic finance.
Jamaat-e-Islami leadership, comprising Ameer Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman and Deputy Ameer Liaqat Baloch, mourned his death with deep regret. They paid their respects to a legendary personality whose intellectual and spiritual efforts will be remembered for centuries to come.
