Dr. Lubna Zaheer has officially taken charge as Chairperson of the PEMRA Council of Complaints (Punjab), following her recent appointment by the federal government.

Accompanied by newly inducted council members, Dr Zaheer visited the PEMRA Regional Office in Lahore, where she was warmly welcomed by the Director Generals, Regional Director, and other senior officials of the authority.

During the visit, PEMRA officials organised a comprehensive orientation session for the new council, providing information on the regulatory framework, complaint redressal mechanisms, and the council's enhanced mandate. The briefing also provided information on new responsibilities now within the council's purview.

Delivering the keynote address on the occasion, Dr. Lubna Zaheer underscored her profound commitment to combining media freedom with ethical practice. "As a media practitioner, broadcast journalist, and academician, I wholeheartedly believe in freedom of expression. Equally, I believe in the gravity of responsible journalism," she asserted. "We aim to establish a platform that maintains public trust as well as journalistic integrity."

She highlighted her previous four-year tenure as a member of the Council of Complaints, stating that the council is now more empowered and accountable than ever before. One of the most notable developments, according to her, is the inclusion of media workers’ financial grievances—such as delayed or unpaid salaries—within the council’s purview.

“This is a significant step forward. Media professionals can now directly approach the council with their wage-related concerns, and we are here to ensure that their voices are heard,” Dr. Zaheer affirmed.

The Council of Complaints, established under the PEMRA Ordinance, is responsible for handling public complaints related to television and radio content.
