A heated exchange took place at Adiala Jail’s Gate 5 before a scheduled meeting with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf PTI founder Imran Khan, as designated coordinator Salman Akram Raja was denied entry.
The jail authorities allowed Azam Khan Swati, Nadia Khattak, Tabish Farooq, Mubashir Awan, and Ansar Kayani to proceed inside, while Salman Akram Raja, Shoaib Shaheen, and Niazullah Niazi were stopped, leading to a dispute.
Expressing his frustration, Salman Akram Raja questioned the decision, stating, “How is it possible that I submitted the names, yet I am not allowed to enter?” At the gate, he confronted the jail officials, accusing them of manipulating the meeting list and ensuring that certain individuals were excluded.
In response, the jail officials assured him that the remaining names would be allowed in after the first group entered. However, Raja insisted that the list provided by his team was not being followed properly. He pointed out that only Azam Swati was permitted from their list, while others were added by jail authorities.
The situation escalated when jail officials repeatedly called for Tabish Farooq and Ansar Kayani to enter, but Salman Akram Raja blocked their entry, demanding that he and Niazullah Niazi be allowed in first. “You cannot fill a quota. Send us in first, then allow them afterward,” he asserted. He also warned that if his name was ignored, nobody else should be allowed inside.
Raja further stated that PTI founder Imran Khan would not be pleased if unauthorised individuals were sent for the meeting. He stated that according to court orders, only those whose names were submitted by Barrister Gohar, Intizar Panjutha, and himself should be granted permission.
It is worth mentioning that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi’s meeting request had been formally submitted to jail authorities before the controversy erupted.
