UAE unveils new currency notes with advanced security features

UAE new currency notes with advanced security features

The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates (CBUAE) has introduced a new 100-dirham banknote featuring advanced security features.

According to the Emirates News Agency, the newly issued note is made of polymer material and incorporates state-of-the-art design and security enhancements.

This initiative aims to promote sustainability and advance the UAE’s modern financial system. The new note is part of the third issuance of the national currency, highlighting the UAE’s development, cultural heritage, and achievements as a global economic hub.

Designed in various shades of red for easy distinction from existing banknotes, the new 100-dirham note features the UAE’s national brand, along with intricate designs and inscriptions produced using cutting-edge printing technology.

On the front, the note displays the historic Umm Al Quwain Fort, symbolizing the country’s cultural heritage. The reverse side showcases images of Fujairah Port and Etihad Rail, reflecting the UAE’s modern infrastructure and economic progress.

To prevent counterfeiting, the banknote incorporates advanced security technologies such as Spark Flow Direction and Kinegram Colors. Additionally, Braille symbols have been included to assist visually impaired individuals in identifying the note’s value.

Made from polymer, the new banknote is twice as durable as traditional paper notes, making it more cost-effective and environmentally friendly.

According to the UAE Central Bank, the new note has been in circulation since March 24, 2025, and holds legal status alongside the existing 100-dirham banknote.

Banks and exchange houses have been instructed to update their ATMs and currency-counting machines to accommodate the new note.

On this occasion, Khaled Mohammed Balama, Governor of the UAE Central Bank, stated that the new banknote reflects the country’s commitment to sustainable development and financial competitiveness. He added that its design pays tribute to the UAE’s historical values while also representing aspirations for future growth.
