Exploitation of women in Balochistan and the role of BYC

19 March 2026

Before the establishment of BYC, there had never been a female suicide bomber in Balochistan. However, BYC was formed in 2020, and in 2022, the highly educated Shari Baloch carried out a suicide attack at Karachi University.

After that, Samia Qalandarani, Mahkan Baloch, Mahel Baloch, Zarina Rafiq Baloch, Hawa Baloch, Asiya Mengal, and several others have carried out suicide attacks. Dozens of women are currently present in BLA camps, and the organization itself releases videos of their training.

Before BYC, there was no tradition of female suicide attacks in the history of Balochistan, even though the insurgency has been ongoing since 1947.

Available evidence suggests that while BYC presents itself as advocating for missing persons and human rights, behind the scenes it functions as a “recruitment center” for the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA).

Through the BYC platform, the state of Pakistan is portrayed as an “occupying, oppressive, and colonial force.” This narrative is used to instill hatred in the minds of young women and even children.

Speeches by Sabiha Baloch and other leaders consistently promote the idea of “Baloch Raj” and resistance against the state, which directly paves the way for militancy.

It is now on record that the women who carried out suicide attacks had, at some level, connections with BYC protest camps or were influenced by its narrative.

Experts say that BYC provides the “raw material,” which BLA’s Majeed Brigade then turns into explosives.
