Trump revokes Canada’s invitation to join Board of Peace

United States President Donald Trump has withdrawn Canada’s invitation to join his newly launched Board of Peace, a global initiative aimed at resolving international conflicts.

The decision follows Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s address at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where he highlighted concerns over the use of economic integration and tariffs as instruments of political leverage.

Carney urged nations to embrace multilateral cooperation and uphold a rules-based global order, earning a rare standing ovation from the international audience.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump announced the withdrawal of Canada’s invitation, citing differences with Carney’s comments.

Canada had initially accepted the invitation, which aimed to assemble world leaders to promote peace, including efforts to secure a Gaza ceasefire.

The Board of Peace requires permanent members to contribute $1 billion each, with the intention of working alongside the United Nations.

Other countries currently participating in the initiative include Argentina, Bahrain, Morocco, Pakistan, and Turkiye, while some traditional US allies such as Britain, France, and Italy have chosen not to join at this stage.

The United Nations has clarified that its engagement with the board is strictly within the context of the Gaza peace plan.

The episode underscores the delicate balance between diplomacy, global cooperation, and humanitarian goals, highlighting the challenges in bringing nations together for peace in a complex international landscape.
