Managing Director Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB), Tariq Ali  Nizamani, has received an Excellence Award from the Pakistan Excellence Club in recognition of contributions to urban management and environmental sustainability. The award highlights efforts made in strengthening solid waste management practices in Sindh amid growing urban and environmental challenges.

The Pakistan Excellence Club recognizes individuals and institutions demonstrating performance and commitment in key national sectors. The award reflects the increasing importance of effective urban governance, particularly in waste management, which remains central to public health, environmental protection, and sustainable urban development in Pakistan.

With rapid urbanization and rising population density, Pakistani cities face mounting pressure on municipal services. Efficient solid waste management is widely regarded as a critical component of sustainable urban management, requiring institutional coordination, operational capacity, and community participation.

Under Tariq Nizamani’s leadership, SSWMB has pursued measures aimed at improving service delivery, operational oversight, and coordination with local administrations. The organization has also emphasized public awareness and social mobilization to encourage citizen participation in cleanliness and waste management, recognizing that sustainable outcomes depend on collective responsibility.

Expressing his feelings, Tariq Ali said the recognition reflects the collective efforts of the SSWMB team and stakeholders working toward cleaner and healthier urban environments. He reiterated the organization’s commitment to improving waste management systems in line with environmental sustainability goals. “The award is seen as an acknowledgment of the broader need to strengthen urban management institutions to address Pakistan’s environmental and municipal service challenges,” he added.
