Renowned singer and beloved cultural icon Prashant Tamang, who rose to fame after winning the third season of Indian Idol, has tragically passed away at the age of 43.
He was reportedly found dead at his home on January 11, with preliminary reports suggesting a possible cardiac arrest, though the cause of death has not yet been officially confirmed.
A native of Darjeeling, Prashant faced early hardship after losing his father at a young age. Despite these challenges, he pursued his passion for music while serving as a constable in the Kolkata police, performing with the police orchestra and honing his vocal talent.
Prashant’s breakthrough came in 2007 when he won Indian Idol Season 3, a victory that not only launched his career as a playback singer but also became a moment of immense pride for the Gorkha community, bringing visibility and recognition to a group that often felt overlooked.
