Bangladesh’s interim government has temporarily suspended visa services at its key diplomatic missions in India, including the High Commission in New Delhi, citing security concerns.
Foreign Affairs Adviser M. Touhid Hossain confirmed on Thursday that the visa sections at Bangladesh’s missions in New Delhi, Kolkata, and Agartala would remain closed for the time being, while business and work visas continue to be processed.
The decision comes amid ongoing diplomatic tensions between Dhaka and New Delhi, which escalated after security-related visa restrictions were imposed by India last year and further deepened following political unrest and the refusal of Bangladesh to send its national cricket team to India for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board highlighted concerns not only for players but also for media personnel, fans, and other stakeholders, citing safety as the primary priority.
While diplomatic and cultural ties remain under strain, the government’s measures underscore a focus on the protection and welfare of citizens and visitors, emphasizing security and precaution in uncertain circumstances.
