Pakistan’s solar energy market is witnessing a welcome decline in prices, offering a timely opportunity for households and businesses planning to switch to renewable energy.
The drop comes as electricity demand dips with the onset of winter, creating favorable conditions for solar system buyers.
According to recent reports, the cost of solar systems ranging from 5 kW to 15 kW has fallen by as much as Rs150,000. This reduction makes solar energy more accessible for consumers looking to invest before summer, when prices are expected to rise again.
A 5 kW solar system, which includes solar panels, inverter, and other essential accessories, is now priced at Rs550,000. Meanwhile, a 7 kW system is available for Rs625,000 from December 2025. This setup can power household essentials, including two 1.5-ton inverter ACs, a refrigerator, fans, lights, and a washing machine.
For larger energy requirements, a 10 kW solar system is priced at Rs900,000, while a 15 kW system, suitable for big homes or small businesses, costs Rs1,300,000. The higher-capacity systems can handle multiple heavy appliances such as several air conditioners, refrigerators, and fans, making them ideal for high-energy consumers.
In addition to the price cuts, solar system users have received a significant boost from the government. President Asif Ali Zardari recently approved the temporary suspension of the 16% General Sales Tax (GST) on solar-generated electricity. This decision followed a review petition filed by solar users and directs the Federal Tax Ombudsman to thoroughly examine the case.
The combined effect of lower solar panel prices and GST relief makes now an ideal time for households and businesses to consider switching to solar energy. Experts suggest that taking advantage of the current rates could lead to substantial savings on electricity bills in the long term.
