Australian PM Albanese marries partner in private ceremony

Anthony Albanese has made history as the first sitting Australian prime minister to marry while in office, tying the knot with his partner Jodie Haydon in a warm and intimate ceremony on Saturday.

The wedding, long anticipated since Albanese’s Valentine’s Day proposal last year, was kept completely private until after the vows were exchanged.

Surrounded by their closest family and friends, the couple said “I do” at The Lodge in Canberra, creating a moment filled with sincerity and joy.

“We are absolutely delighted to share our love and commitment to spending our future lives together, in front of our family and closest friends,” Albanese said in a heartfelt statement.

Jodie Haydon, who has stood by Albanese through major milestones from campaign trails to election victories wore an elegant dress by Sydney label Romance Was Born, while the prime minister looked classic in a suit from MJ Bale.

The ceremony also had touching personal touches: Haydon’s five-year-old niece, Ella, served as the flower girl, and Toto, Albanese’s beloved dog, proudly carried the rings.

Guests enjoyed beer served in specially crafted cans from a Sydney Inner West brewery, adding a charming local flavour to the celebration.

After exchanging vows, the couple walked back down the aisle to Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours),” and later shared their first dance to the timeless Frank Sinatra classic, “The Way You Look Tonight.”

The couple will enjoy a short honeymoon within Australia, privately funded, beginning Monday a peaceful start to their new journey as husband and wife.
