If you grew up in the 90s, you likely remember Ali Haider’s iconic song Purani Jeans. Fans of the 2000s also recall Ali Zafar’s hits like Channo and Chal Dil Mere.
Now, both celebrated pop stars are returning to the music scene as part of Zafar’s first studio album in 15 years, joining forces for a modern reinterpretation of Haider’s 1994 classic Zalim Nazron Se, released on Friday along with a vibrant music video.
Originally performed by ghazal singer Jawaid Akhtar in 1979 with lyrics by Roshan Naginavi, the song carries a rich musical legacy.
Ali Zafar’s vision, as noted in a press release, is to reconnect Pakistan’s musical heritage with today’s generation, bridging decades of artistry and culture.
Haider reflected on the collaboration, saying, “Recreating this classic with Ali Zafar was truly special.
The idea came from him, and the moment I heard it, I knew we could bring something beautiful to life.” Zafar, in turn, called Haider “an icon who shaped the soundtrack of our youth” and described the experience as “an honour and a joy.”
The music video pays homage to the golden age of Pakistani pop, featuring flashy cars, dancers, and close-up shots of both singers in stylish sunglasses a modern tribute to a beloved era.
While the full album release date has not yet been announced, Zafar hinted fans should “circle the 20th of December” on social media, promising a musical journey that honors the past while celebrating the present.
