Pakistan’s fighter jet JF-17 draws massive interest, lands new deal in Dubai

Pakistan’s pride, the JF-17 Thunder fighter jet, has once again captured global attention at the Dubai Airshow 2025, emerging as one of the most talked-about displays of the event. The aircraft not only impressed military officials and defense analysts but also helped Pakistan secure fresh international interest.

According to official statements from Dubai, Pakistan has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a friendly nation for the export of the JF-17 Thunder. While the partner country and the number of jets being sold have not yet been disclosed, officials confirm that the deal marks another major step forward for Pakistan’s defense industry.

The strong response did not end there. Several other countries also expressed serious interest in purchasing the JF-17, signaling growing confidence in Pakistan’s aviation capabilities. This follows Azerbaijan’s landmark $4.6 billion agreement in 2024 to acquire the advanced JF-17 Block III variant.

High-level PAF engagements in Dubai

During Pakistan’s participation in the airshow, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu held a series of important meetings with military leaders and air chiefs from friendly states.

He met with Lieutenant General Pilot Ibrahim Nasser Al-Alawi, UAE Undersecretary of Defence, and Major General Rashid Mohammed Al-Shamsi, Commander of the UAE Air Force & Air Defence. Discussions focused on expanding aerospace cooperation, advanced training programs, and strengthening operational coordination between Pakistan and the UAE.

The UAE leadership praised the Pakistan Air Force for its professionalism, innovation, and technological progress. Both sides agreed to deepen ties through joint exercises, professional exchanges, and long-term strategic partnerships.

JF-17 Block III becomes the star attraction

Pakistan’s pavilion featured the JF-17 Thunder Block III alongside the Super Mushshak trainer aircraft. But it was the JF-17 Block III that became the real showstopper.

Defense analysts and international delegations highlighted its modern avionics, enhanced manoeuvrability, upgraded weapons systems, and advanced radar and electronic warfare capabilities. The overwhelming interest further boosted the fighter jet’s international profile, strengthening Pakistan’s reputation as an emerging player in the aerospace sector.

What makes the JF-17 Thunder special?

The JF-17 Thunder is a lightweight, multirole fighter jet jointly developed by Pakistan and China. Serving as the backbone of the Pakistan Air Force’s modern fleet, it can perform multiple missions, including:

  • Air-to-air combat

  • Air-to-ground strikes

  • Reconnaissance operations

Its affordability, modern design, and flexible systems make it a highly competitive option for countries seeking an advanced yet cost-effective fighter aircraft.
