Indian actor Vivek Oberoi recently made headlines not for a film comeback, but for an Instagram video in which he sang along to “Tere Liye”, the 2010 hit from his film Prince.

While the performance itself seemed lighthearted, Oberoi notably failed to credit one key contributor: the song’s male vocalist, Atif Aslam.

In the video, shot inside his car, Oberoi dramatically lip-synced to the track and credited Shreya Ghoshal, the lyricist Sameer, the music director, and the film director but left out Atif Aslam entirely.

Fans quickly noticed the omission. While it’s true that Pakistani artists’ accounts are blocked in India, which prevents tagging, Oberoi could have easily acknowledged Atif Aslam by name, suggesting the absence felt more like erasure than oversight.

This incident reflects a broader challenge in the arts, where creators from Pakistan are widely appreciated yet frequently excluded from formal recognition in India due to political and social constraints.

Despite this, their voices continue to resonate deeply with audiences, as Oberoi’s video which has garnered over 19 million views demonstrates.

Whether intentional or accidental, the moment highlights the importance of fair recognition for all artists, reminding audiences and celebrities alike that celebrating creativity should transcend borders and politics.
