Cristiano Ronaldo says 2026 World Cup 'definitely' his last

Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that the 2026 World Cup will be his final tournament with Portugal.

Speaking at the TOURISE Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the 41-year-old football icon expressed his desire to fully enjoy and live the moment on the world’s biggest stage next June, when the tournament will take place across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

Reflecting on his illustrious international career, Ronaldo said, “I give everything for football. I’ve spent 25 years in the game, achieved numerous records at both club and national levels, and I’m really proud. So let’s enjoy the moment and live the moment.”

Ronaldo is the men’s all-time leading goalscorer in international football with 143 goals and has represented Portugal in five World Cups, with the 2026 edition likely marking his sixth.

While the World Cup trophy has eluded him, he celebrated a major triumph with Portugal in the 2016 Euros, scoring three goals in seven matches.

Despite his international retirement looming, Ronaldo continues to play at the club level with Al-Nassr, following a two-year contract extension signed in June.

He has indicated that he plans to remain active in professional football for one or two more years.

The 2026 World Cup, expanded to 48 teams, will kick off on June 11 in Mexico City, with the group stage draw scheduled for December 5 in Washington, D.C.

Fans worldwide eagerly await Ronaldo’s final bow on the international stage, celebrating a career that has inspired generations with talent, dedication, and passion for the game.
