Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has assured the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) of his government’s support for the party’s proposed amendments to the local government law under the upcoming 27th Constitutional Amendment Pakistan.
According to official sources, a high-level MQM-P delegation met the prime minister at the PM House in Islamabad on Thursday to discuss the draft and share their constitutional suggestions. The MQM-P team included Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori, Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal, senior leader Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, MNAs Dr. Farooq Sattar, Javed Hanif, Syed Aminul Haque, and Khawaja Izharul Hasan.
During the meeting, the delegation urged the prime minister to ensure that the 27th Amendment includes binding clauses that would give local governments full administrative and financial autonomy, empowering them to solve citizens’ problems at the grassroots level. MQM-P leaders stressed that empowering municipal governments is the only way to deliver effective governance and ensure equitable development in urban centers, especially in Sindh’s major cities.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reportedly appreciated the MQM-P’s constructive approach and assured the delegation that their proposals would be given due consideration. He reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive decision-making and strengthening the democratic system through consensus.

“We are committed to devolving power to the grassroots level. The government will ensure that local bodies are strengthened both administratively and financially,” the prime minister was quoted as saying by a senior official.
The 27th Constitutional Amendment Pakistan is expected to be presented before the National Assembly on November 14, with the government aiming to secure approval from both houses of Parliament within this month. To ensure maximum participation, the prime minister has suspended all foreign tours of federal ministers and lawmakers, directing them to remain available in Islamabad during the voting phase.

In the lead-up to the amendment’s passage, PM Shehbaz is holding a series of meetings with coalition partners to build consensus and incorporate their feedback. Naek, Murtaza Wahab, Irfan Qadir, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Naveed Qamar, and Sherry Rehman. The PPP members are expected to travel to Karachi via a special flight after the meeting to attend the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) session, where the amendment will also be discussed in detail.
Sources said that Speaker National Assembly has already consulted parliamentary leaders from all parties to finalize the agenda and schedule for the upcoming session. However, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary representatives reportedly did not attend the consultative meeting.
Meanwhile, the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) delegation also met the prime minister to express its support for the amendment. During the discussion, Shehbaz Sharif briefed IPP leaders on the objectives of the constitutional reform, emphasizing the government’s intent to pass it with national consensus.
