Federal Minister for Information Atta Tarar has said that constitutional amendments in Pakistan are currently under consideration to make the judicial system stronger and more effective.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, the minister urged everyone to avoid unnecessary speculation about the proposed changes, stressing that the government is taking a measured and transparent approach.
Tarar revealed that the government plans to move from a constitutional bench to a constitutional court, marking a major shift in the country’s judicial framework. He said the discussions on constitutional amendments in Pakistan are part of a broader initiative aimed at reinforcing judicial institutions and ensuring better accountability.
“People should avoid drawing conclusions before the government formally announces its decisions,” he added.

The minister also made it clear that supporting any individual or group involved in terrorism is neither legally nor morally acceptable. He criticised attempts to promote “the narrative of a convicted prisoner sitting in jail,” calling it unjustifiable under any circumstances.
Taking a jab at the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Atta Tarar said the party has gone beyond U-turns and has now become a “roundabout.” He pointed out that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister had himself uploaded a video of his visit to the Corps Commander House, highlighting the contradictions within PTI’s political messaging.
On the other hand, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan strongly opposed the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment, calling it a serious threat to national harmony. Speaking outside Adiala Jail, he said creating another court alongside the existing judiciary would be a “grave mistake.”
Gohar warned that any amendment that could disrupt the balance among provinces should be avoided. “The constitution clearly says that no province’s share can be reduced,” he reminded.
He further recalled that during the PTI government’s tenure in 2020, efforts were made on the 10th National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, and all provinces are now waiting for the 11th Award. Gohar noted that the Council of Common Interests had agreed that no new canals would be developed without mutual consent.
At this critical juncture, the PTI chairman urged all political forces to step back and work for Pakistan’s collective good. “Every patriot believes it’s time to sheath swords and focus on national improvement,” he said, adding that Imran Khan has not yet given any call for a march to Islamabad.
