In a move that will directly affect millions of citizens, the government has increased petrol prices by Rs2.43 per litre, setting the new rate at Rs265.45 per litre, effective November 1.

The price of high-speed diesel has also risen by Rs3.02, reaching Rs278.44 per litre, while kerosene and light diesel oil have gone up by Rs3.34 and Rs1.22 respectively.

This increase, based on OGRA’s recommendations and global oil market fluctuations, comes as another blow to households already struggling with inflation.

For many in the middle and lower-income brackets, the rise in petrol prices means higher daily commuting costs and a tighter squeeze on limited budgets.

Diesel, the lifeline of Pakistan’s transport and agriculture sectors, fuels buses, trucks, and farm machinery meaning this price hike will likely push up the cost of food, vegetables, and essential goods across the country.

As global uncertainties and sanctions ripple through economies, ordinary citizens once again bear the brunt of rising fuel costs.
