Saudi Arabia has appointed Sheikh Saleh bin Fawzan bin Abdullah Al-Fawzan as the new Grand Mufti, marking a significant moment in the kingdom’s religious and cultural landscape.
Appointed by royal decree on the recommendation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Sheikh Al-Fawzan succeeds the late Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh, who served the position with distinction for more than two decades before his passing in September.
A respected scholar born in Al-Qassim in 1935, Sheikh Al-Fawzan has devoted his life to Islamic scholarship and education.
With advanced degrees in fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) from the College of Shariah in Riyadh, he went on to serve as the Director of the Higher Institute of Judiciary and has been a key member of the Council of Senior Scholars, the Ifta Committee, and the Islamic Fiqh Council.
His deep commitment to knowledge and faith extends beyond academia.
Through his writings and radio programs, including the famous Nur Ala Al-Darb, Sheikh Al-Fawzan has guided countless listeners with wisdom, compassion, and humility.
His appointment comes at a time when Saudi Arabia continues to balance tradition with transformation — a reminder that leadership rooted in scholarship, ethics, and empathy can guide societies toward unity and understanding.
