Big News for Expats: Saudi Arabia Updates Its Residency Program!

Saudi Arabia has rolled out a new update for its Premium Residency scheme in October 2025, offering detailed information on revised fees, added benefits, and a smoother application process.

The Saudi Premium Residency Program aims to attract skilled professionals and global investors by giving them more freedom to live, work, and invest in the Kingdom — without the need for a local sponsor.

According to the latest announcement, the Saudi Premium Residency Program offers two main categories:

  1. Permanent Residency: A one-time payment of SAR 800,000 (around USD 213,000) grants lifelong residency in Saudi Arabia.

  2. Renewable Residency: Those seeking flexibility can opt for an annual plan by paying SAR 100,000 (around USD 26,700) each year.

Key benefits for residents

The updated residency system offers a wide range of privileges that make living in Saudi Arabia more convenient and independent. Some of the major benefits include:

  • No need for a sponsor (kafeel) or employer.

  • Freedom to buy property anywhere in the country except Makkah, Madinah, and border areas.

  • Right to own and operate businesses independently.

  • Family sponsorship for spouse and children.

  • Multiple-entry freedom — residents can enter and exit the country without visa restrictions.

  • Access to banking, education, and healthcare services.

  • Permission to transfer money abroad without limitations.

However, the scheme does not grant Saudi citizenship or voting rights, maintaining a distinction between residency and national privileges.

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must meet several conditions to qualify for the Saudi Premium Residency Program:

  • Be at least 21 years old.

  • Hold a valid passport.

  • Have no criminal record.

  • Be medically fit.

  • Enter the Kingdom legally.

  • Provide proof of stable income or investment funds.

How to apply

Interested applicants can apply directly through the official website (pr.gov.sa) by following a few simple steps:

  1. Create an account on the official portal.

  2. Fill out the online application form.

  3. Upload required documents, such as passport, bank statements, and medical reports.

  4. Pay the prescribed fee and await confirmation.

According to officials, most applicants receive a decision within one to three months after submission.

The Saudi government emphasized that this initiative is part of its Vision 2030 strategy to diversify the economy and reduce dependence on oil revenues. By attracting international investors, entrepreneurs, and skilled professionals, the Saudi Premium Residency Program aims to strengthen the Kingdom’s workforce and drive innovation across key sectors.
