The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced that local government (LG) elections in Punjab will take place in the last week of December 2025, marking a crucial step toward restoring grassroots democracy in the province.

According to the ECP, the elections will be held under the existing legal framework, specifically the Local Government Act 2022, to ensure transparency, fairness, and effective governance.

The commission has directed that the delimitation of constituencies begin immediately, with a two-month deadline to complete the process.

Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja emphasized the ECP’s commitment to holding timely elections, acknowledging the delays as a matter of concern.

He reassured that the institution is fully prepared to conduct the polls once the necessary legal procedures are finalized.

This decision underscores the ECP’s resolve to strengthen local representation and empower citizens — a vital step toward responsive governance and community-driven development in Punjab.
