The night sky is set to put on a breathtaking display, as the first supermoon of the year graces the horizon tonight — a celestial event that unites sky watchers around the world in awe and wonder.
According to SUPARCO, the Moon will be at its closest distance to Earth — approximately 224,000 miles away — making it appear 6.6% larger and 13% brighter than an ordinary full moon.
Visible across Pakistan, the glowing orb will rise in the east after sunset and set in the west before sunrise, creating a perfect opportunity for moon enthusiasts and photographers alike to witness its radiant beauty.
Astronomers explain that a supermoon occurs when the Moon reaches its closest point to Earth in its orbit, known as perigee. This proximity enhances its size and brightness, turning an ordinary full moon into a truly spectacular sight.
SUPARCO also announced that two more supermoons will follow later this year — with the brightest on November 5, 2025, and another on December 5, 2025 — promising more nights of celestial magic ahead.
