Former Senator Mushtaq Ahmad, who had been detained by Israeli forces during the interception of the Gaza aid flotilla, has been released and is now safe under the care of Pakistan’s Embassy in Amman, Jordan.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar confirmed the development on Tuesday, expressing relief and gratitude for the successful diplomatic efforts that ensured Mushtaq Ahmad’s safe return.

The former senator was part of the Global Sumud Flotilla — a 45-ship humanitarian mission that set sail from Spain with the goal of delivering much-needed aid to Gaza and breaking the long-standing blockade.

The flotilla carried hundreds of activists, humanitarian workers, and political figures united by a message of peace and compassion.

Despite the mission’s humanitarian nature, Israeli forces intercepted the vessels nearly 80 kilometers off Gaza’s coast, detaining over 450 activists.

The operation drew global condemnation and renewed calls for protecting humanitarian missions in conflict zones.

In a post on X, FM Ishaq Dar confirmed Mushtaq Ahmad’s wellbeing, noting that he was in “good health and high spirits,” and that the embassy stands ready to facilitate his return to Pakistan.

The foreign minister also extended heartfelt thanks to friendly nations whose cooperation and solidarity were instrumental in securing his release.

This episode serves as a reminder of the courage of those who stand for humanitarian causes and the importance of international unity in defending the right to deliver aid where it is most needed.
