Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has been awarded an honorary Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree by the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in recognition of his “outstanding leadership and contributions to nation-building.”
The special ceremony, held at IIUM’s Kuala Lumpur campus, was attended by dignitaries including Queen of Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, who serves as the university’s Constitutional Head.
Dressed in a traditional blue academic gown, PM Shehbaz described the recognition as a “great privilege and honour,” expressing gratitude to the university and the people of Malaysia.
Reflecting on his four decades of public service, he said, “I have always tried to serve my people with sincerity of purpose, humility, and unwavering commitment — both as Chief Minister of Punjab and now as Prime Minister of Pakistan.”
The ceremony highlighted the spirit of leadership rooted in compassion and public welfare.
During his visit, the prime minister also met his Malaysian counterpart, Anwar Ibrahim, where both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and exploring new avenues of cooperation — particularly through the ASEAN economic framework — to promote inclusive growth and regional solidarity.
