A case has been registered at Peshawar’s Sharqi Police Station over the alleged abduction of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Sanam Javed, raising serious concerns about human rights and the rule of law in the region.
According to the FIR filed by her friend — a female lawyer — Sanam Javed was reportedly stopped by five unidentified individuals on a busy road in Peshawar and forcibly taken away in a vehicle.
The complaint described the incident as a grave violation of basic human dignity and a matter that undermines citizens’ sense of safety.
She urged authorities to launch an immediate, transparent investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice, calling the abduction a “serious failure of law enforcement.”
PTI Secretary Information Sheikh Waqas Akram also condemned the incident, saying that Sanam Javed was dragged from her car in front of witnesses before being taken away.
He described it as part of an ongoing pattern of political victimisation and demanded her safe and immediate release.
Meanwhile, voices across civil society and political circles — including PTI supporters — have expressed shock and concern, questioning how such an incident could occur under a PTI-led provincial government.
Many are urging Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to take personal notice and ensure her recovery, emphasizing that the safety of every citizen must remain above politics.
