Motorists may soon have to dig deeper into their pockets, as petroleum prices in Pakistan are expected to increase from September 16, 2025.
The oil industry has suggested a temporary 15-day hike covering petrol, diesel, kerosene, and light diesel oil.
Proposed price adjustments
According to industry sources, the suggested increase in fuel prices is as follows:
-
Petrol: Up by Rs 1.54 per liter
-
High-Speed Diesel (HSD): Up by Rs 4.79 per liter
-
Kerosene: Up by Rs 3.60 per liter
-
Light Diesel: Up by Rs 3.68 per liter
These adjustments are based on global oil market trends. However, the working paper does not factor in government taxes or possible foreign exchange losses, which could further impact the final rates.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) is set to present a summary of the proposed hike to the government on September 15. After reviewing the recommendation, the Prime Minister will make the final decision. If approved, the Finance Ministry will issue an official notification, and the revised rates will take effect nationwide.
Current fuel prices
As of September 1, 2025, the prevailing retail prices for petroleum products are:
-
Super Petrol: Rs 264.61 per liter
-
Diesel: Rs 269.99 per liter
Drivers are encouraged to verify rates at their nearest fuel stations, with the Shell Station Locator available for convenience.
