The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has announced the postponement of the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) in light of the devastating floods affecting large parts of the country.
The decision, made on the instructions of Health Minister Mustafa Kamal after consultations with provincial and regional representatives, reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding students’ futures during this crisis.
Originally scheduled for October 5, the MDCAT will now be held on October 26 (Sunday), giving affected students time to recover and prepare.
The Ministry of Health emphasized that this step was taken in the “larger interest of students,” many of whom have been displaced or face severe hardships in flood-hit regions.
The government reaffirmed its resolve to provide equal educational opportunities to all students across Pakistan, ensuring that no aspiring doctor or dentist is left behind due to circumstances beyond their control.
With nearly 200,000 candidates set to appear, the exam will be conducted at designated universities nationwide and abroad.
This compassionate decision underscores the state’s responsibility to balance academic rigor with humanitarian concern, especially in a time when millions are grappling with the impacts of one of the worst floods in the country’s history.
