President Donald Trump is set to meet Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani on Friday evening in New York, as part of ongoing efforts to address the humanitarian and diplomatic fallout of this week’s Israeli strike in Doha.

The meeting underscores Trump’s support for Qatar and his opposition to the attack, which claimed lives and heightened regional tensions.

For Prime Minister al-Thani, it marks an important step in a broader diplomatic push to rally international pressure on Israel to end the devastating war in Gaza.

Earlier in the day, al-Thani will meet U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington, followed by discussions with Vice President JD Vance. Later, in New York, he will sit down with Trump and White House envoy Steve Witkoff.

Among the key topics will be a potential U.S.-Qatar security agreement, accelerated by recent hostilities and Qatar’s vulnerability after both Iranian and Israeli strikes.

At Qatar’s request, the UN Security Council convened on Thursday to address the Israeli assault.

In his remarks, al-Thani condemned the violence but reaffirmed Qatar’s steadfast commitment to playing a “humanitarian and diplomatic role” in the Gaza crisis.

Trump also emphasized the urgent need to keep humanitarian priorities at the forefront: “Hopefully, the Israeli strike in Qatar won’t affect the Gaza negotiations. We want the hostages out, and we want them out soon.”

Qatar has long been a crucial mediator in ceasefire talks and hostage negotiations since the October 7 attacks.

Its leadership continues to stress that peace, dialogue, and the protection of innocent lives must remain the central focus of all international efforts.
