Shehbaz Sharif Slams Israeli Aggression in Doha, Urges Muslim Unity

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the recent Israeli attack on Doha, calling it a blatant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and international law.

During his official solidarity visit to Doha on Thursday, the premier met Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, where he stressed the urgent need for Muslim unity against Israel’s “brazen aggression” in the Middle East.

The meeting came just days after Israel carried out airstrikes in the Qatari capital targeting Hamas leaders. While Hamas confirmed that its senior official Khalil al-Hayya survived, five of its members, including Hayya’s son Humam, were killed. A Qatari security officer, Lance Corporal Badr Saad Mohammed al-Humaidi al-Dosari, also lost his life in the attack. Qatar announced it would hold funerals in Doha for the victims.

PM Shehbaz described the strike as a “dastardly and heinous” act, extending deep sympathies to the Qatari leadership and people. He reaffirmed that Pakistan and Qatar had always stood by each other in times of crisis, assuring Doha of Pakistan’s complete support in countering unjustified provocations.

The prime minister also praised Qatar’s constructive role in Gaza peace talks and warned that Israel’s actions were designed to destabilize the region and derail diplomatic efforts. At Qatar’s request, Pakistan has called for an emergency session of the UN Security Council and welcomed Doha’s move to convene an Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit on September 15 under the OIC framework.

Highlighting the need for collective action, Shehbaz said Pakistan stood firmly with Qatar and the people of Palestine, emphasizing that regional peace could only be achieved by ending Israeli aggression. He also thanked the Emir for Doha’s strong support for Pakistan during its standoff with India earlier this year.

The meeting was attended by a high-level Pakistani delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.

Meanwhile, Qatar strongly denounced the Israeli attack on Doha, with Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani declaring that Israel had “killed any hope” for the release of hostages in Gaza. Speaking to CNN, he accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of sabotaging peace efforts and called for him to be brought to justice.

The international community has also voiced alarm over the strike. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres termed it a “flagrant violation of sovereignty,” while Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, Iran, Jordan, and the UAE all condemned the aggression. Pope Leo described the situation as “very serious,” warning of grave consequences for regional stability.
