On the 60th Defence and Martyrs’ Day, Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership came together to honour the nation’s martyrs, ghazis, and resilient citizens whose courage and sacrifices safeguard the country’s freedom and sovereignty.

This year’s commemoration, coinciding with the blessed occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH), began with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital, symbolising respect for those who laid down their lives in defence of the homeland.

The Chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, alongside the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, led the homage to the country’s heroes.

In its message, ISPR highlighted that September 6 embodies the unshakable spirit of the Pakistani nation.

It recalled how, in 1965, soldiers and citizens together thwarted a numerically superior enemy with unmatched bravery, proving that a united nation can never be defeated.

ISPR vowed that the courage of martyrs continues to inspire future generations and reaffirmed the armed forces’ resolve to defend Pakistan against all threats, while also pledging full support for flood victims across the country.

Voices of Tribute

President Asif Ali Zardari, calling September 6 a “glorious chapter” in Pakistan’s history, saluted the resilience of soldiers and citizens alike.

He drew parallels between the valour of 1965 and the recent Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, praising the professional excellence of the armed forces.

He urged the youth to stay united and resilient against emerging challenges such as hybrid warfare, disinformation, and extremism.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s principled stance on Kashmir and Palestine, condemning ongoing atrocities and demanding just solutions grounded in peace and justice.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described Defence Day as a “symbol of courage, unity, and resilience.”

Remembering the sacrifices of martyrs and ghazis, he reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to protect its independence and integrity while reaffirming solidarity with the people of Kashmir and Palestine.

He stressed that strong defence rests on both military strength and economic stability, urging the nation to rise above personal differences and work for a united, self-reliant Pakistan.
