Flash floods ravage Diamer’s Deral Valley, GB

According to local authorities, flash floods that swept through the Deral Valley in Gilgit-Baltistan's Diamer district early Friday morning caused at least 20 houses to sustain damage and caused significant agricultural loss.

According to Assistant Commissioner Waseem Abbas, the flooding triggered by intense rainfall at around 6:00 AM, severely affected the Gamari area. He said:

“Out of the 20 affected houses, five were completely destroyed,”

The floods also caused widespread damage to crops and uprooted numerous trees, further intensifying the impact on the local livelihood. Abbas added that flooding was also reported in nearby drainage channels, raising concerns about further destruction.

Locals recounted fleeing their homes in panic as floodwaters surged through the valley, forcing dozens of families to seek refuge in safer areas.

Emergency response teams are assessing the situation as relief efforts begin in the affected regions.
