PTI will suffer if it doesn’t learn from past, warns Rana Sanaullah

Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, has cautioned that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will have no one to blame but themselves if they continue repeating past mistakes.

Speaking on Aik News program “Aik Page”, he touched on issues ranging from flood management to political stability and the future of the PTI.

While addressing the devastating flood situation, Sanaullah admitted that land mafias have encroached on river belts, worsening the crisis. However, he stressed that they cannot be held “100 percent responsible” for the damages. He highlighted the importance of building new dams, saying the Kalabagh Dam carries great significance but cannot be prioritized above national unity. “If provinces reach a consensus, only then can Kalabagh Dam be built,” he explained.

Commenting on political rumors, Rana Sanaullah dismissed speculation about Defence Minister Khawaja Asif’s absence from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to China. He clarified that Asif was very much part of political discussions in Murree, adding there was no rift within the government. “Social media thrives on baseless gossip, but the reality is that the government and institutions are working with excellent understanding,” he said.

On governance, the adviser stressed that Pakistan’s progress relies on stability and continuity. He reassured that elections will be held on schedule after the government completes its five-year term, while also noting that the constitution clearly sets the tenure of the Army Chief at five years.

When asked about PTI’s leadership, Sanaullah pointed out that the party often makes decisions that backfire. “PTI repeating past mistakes has always led to its downfall. If they don’t change their course, they will again face the consequences,” he warned. He further noted that former PTI chief enjoys all necessary facilities in judicial custody, unlike the difficulties faced by PML-N leaders in the past.

On the Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he said seat adjustments were made in line with the assembly’s numbers, denying any move to topple Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s government. “There is no plan to destabilize KP. PTI will never abandon its provincial government,” he added.

Rana Sanaullah wrapped up by reiterating that PTI’s troubles are largely self-inflicted: “If PTI keeps repeating past mistakes, they will be solely responsible for the political and electoral setbacks that follow.”
