Pakistan Army Helicopter Crash in Gilgit Claims 5 Soldiers Including 2 Officers

A Pakistan Army helicopter crash during a routine training flight claimed the lives of five brave soldiers, including two officers, on Monday morning near Hudur village, close to Thak Das cantonment.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the MI-17 helicopter was on a training mission when it developed a technical fault and went down around 10 a.m., approximately 12 kilometers from the cantonment. The crash resulted in the martyrdom of all onboard crew members.

The fallen heroes have been identified as Pilot in Command Major Atif, Co-Pilot Major Faisal, Flight Engineer Naib Subedar Maqbool, Crew Chief Havaldar Jahangir, and Crew Chief Naik Amir.

The ISPR emphasized that such training missions are vital to maintain operational readiness of the Pakistan Army Aviation Wing. These exercises not only prepare forces for national defense but also equip them to carry out humanitarian relief and rescue missions during emergencies.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the tragic Pakistan Army helicopter crash, praying for the departed souls and extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. He hailed the sacrifices of the martyred officers and soldiers, calling them an inspiration for the nation.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also paid tribute to the martyrs, acknowledging their ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. He reassured the grieving families that the nation stands with them in this difficult time.
