The start of the new academic session at Punjab University has been delayed as heavy rains and flooding continue to disrupt life across the province.
The university announced on Friday that Punjab University classes postponed for one week will now officially begin on September 8, 2025.
According to a university spokesperson, Punjab University will observe a “zero week” from September 1 to 7, during which no academic classes will be conducted. The decision comes in response to the severe impact of monsoon rains and widespread flooding that have made it difficult for many students and staff to return to campus on time.

While classes remain suspended during the zero week, the university clarified that hostel allotments, departmental activities, and admissions will continue as per schedule. This ensures that students settling into hostels or completing admission formalities won’t face unnecessary delays despite the weather-related challenges.
The spokesperson further confirmed that all teaching departments will reopen on September 8, marking the official start of the academic session. The additional week is expected to give students and faculty time to adjust and prepare after the extended summer break and ongoing weather disruptions.
