Muniba Mazari named UN Advocate for sustainable development goals

Pakistan’s renowned activist and motivational speaker Muniba Mazari has been officially appointed by UN Secretary-General António Guterres as a United Nations Advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), marking a historic milestone in her global advocacy journey.

Mazari, widely celebrated as Pakistan’s “Iron Lady,” has previously served as UN Women’s National Goodwill Ambassador since 2015, championing gender equality, disability inclusion, and climate action.

With her new role as an SDG Advocate, she joins a prestigious group of global leaders including the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Mottley, and Queen Mathilde of Belgium, who are committed to advancing the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

In his official announcement, Secretary-General Guterres praised Muniba’s unwavering courage and resilience:

“Her leadership and resilience symbolize the very spirit of the SDGs. I urge her to bring this vision to the global stage and mobilize the world for action.”

Mazari responded to her appointment by emphasizing both the honor and responsibility it carries:

“This is not just an honor, it’s a responsibility. I will use my platform to amplify the voices of those who are unheard and push for a fairer, more compassionate, and more sustainable world. Together, we can accelerate progress for people and the planet.”

UN Women Pakistan’s Country Representative, Jamshed M. Kazi, hailed the elevation of Muniba’s role as a proud moment for Pakistan, noting that she now serves as a global icon of inclusion and equality.

Muniba Mazari’s remarkable journey, rising as a fierce advocate of gender equality and inclusion following her life-altering accident still shines brightly on the world stage.

Her new position as an SDG Advocate reinforces her impact in driving progress on gender, climate resilience, education, and human rights, both in Pakistan and internationally.
