Veteran Punjabi Comedian-Actor Jaswinder Bhalla Passes Away at 65

Today, Jaswinder Bhalla, a well-liked actor, comedian, and scholar, passed away at the age of 65 after a brief illness, leaving Punjabi comedy and cinema without one of its biggest stars.

He died at Fortis Hospital in Mohali early on August 22, 2025. Family, friends, and coworkers in the industry are anticipated to attend his cremation, which is set for August 23 at 12 p.m. at the Balongi cremation ground.

Bhalla was acclaimed for his comic genius, shining in Punjabi films like Carry on Jatta, particularly as the endearing “Advocate Dhillon,” and for memorable roles in Jatt & Juliet, Sardaar Ji, and the hit comedy series Chhankata.

Beyond his entertainment career, he held a distinguished academic post as a professor and head of the Department of Extension Education at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, retiring in 2020.

He held a PhD in agricultural science and was respected both on stage and in lecture halls.

From all over Punjab, tributes poured in. The political leaders expressed sorrow over the passing of the creator of the well-loved "Chacha Chatra," stating that his memory will live on in people's hearts forever.

Gippy Grewal, Neeru Bajwa, Happy Raikoti, and Binnu Dhillon were among the celebrities who posted heartfelt messages. Grewal called Bhalla a "father, mentor, and talented actor" whose influence went far beyond the screen.

Fans and colleagues also remembered his kindness and warmth. One touching story recalled how Bhalla ensured a schoolgirl, who had no phone, could see a selfie he took by making it go viral, underscoring his gentle nature and respect for everyone around him

His legacy is characterized not only by his ability to make people laugh but also by his dual roles as a cultural icon, an educator, and a role model in Punjabi academia and entertainment.

His daughter Ashpreet Kaur, son and actor Pukhraj Bhalla, and wife Parmdeep Bhalla survive him.

Today, the Punjabi entertainment community and his innumerable fans worldwide lament the death of a legend whose life was full of wisdom and wit.
