Pakistani forces kill BRAS Chief Amir Alias Baba in Panjgur operation

14 soldiers injured in intense clash as Baloch separatists attempt coordinated attack

04 August 2025

In what the military is calling a significant counter-terrorism success, Pakistani security forces killed Amir Alias Baba, the operational head of BRAS (Baloch Raaji Aajoi Sangar), during a clash in the Panjgur district of Balochistan on August 1.

According to initial reports, the confrontation began around 6:00 PM when militants from BRAS launched an armed assault on military installations in an apparent attempt to overrun army camps in the region. Fourteen Pakistani soldiers were injured in the exchange of fire, but the military successfully repelled the attack and neutralized several high-value targets, including Amir Alias Baba.

BRAS is an umbrella group comprising several Baloch separatist outfits including the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), Baloch Republican Army (BRA), and the Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF). These groups have carried out numerous attacks in Balochistan over the past decade, targeting security forces, infrastructure, and civilians under the banner of armed resistance.

Security officials described the operation as “critical in disrupting separatist coordination in the southwest.” While details of the ongoing situation remain limited due to the remote location, sources confirm that operations in the region are continuing to eliminate residual threats.

Amir Alias Baba was a known figure in the BRAS hierarchy and is believed to have masterminded several attacks on state installations in recent years. His death marks a significant setback for the alliance of militant groups operating in Balochistan.

The military has not yet issued an official statement with further details on the number of militants killed or captured during the operation. Local security forces remain on high alert as search operations continue.
