Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian will begin a two-day official visit to Pakistan on Saturday, August 2, at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, according to Iran’s state news agency IRNA.
The announcement was confirmed by the President’s Political Adviser, Mehdi Sanai, who shared the news on the social media platform X. He stated that President Pezeshkian will participate in high-level meetings and engage with prominent cultural and business figures in Pakistan.
The visit is intended to strengthen the broad relationship between Iran and Pakistan, with discussions expected to cover political, economic, religious, and cultural cooperation. A key focus will be on enhancing cross-border collaboration and increasing bilateral trade beyond the current figure of 3 billion dollars.
President Pezeshkian will be the second Iranian head of state to visit Pakistan in under two years. His trip comes after the April 2024 visit by the late President Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash one month later.
In a show of diplomatic reciprocity, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif traveled to Iran in May 2024, where he met with both Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and President Pezeshkian. That visit aimed to strengthen regional alliances and convey appreciation for Iran’s support during Pakistan’s recent standoff with India.
