While trucks continue to cross the border into Gaza, it remains unclear whether the aid onboard is actually reaching starving civilians. The World Health Organization has issued a dire warning, calling the situation in Gaza a man-made “mass starvation.”
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, over 900,000 children are going hungry and 70,000 already show visible signs of malnutrition. Gaza has reached Stage 5 of malnutrition, a catastrophic level where the body begins to shut down. At this point, even if aid arrives, it cannot reverse the damage already done.
What little aid is allowed in often arrives too late. Supplies have been held at the border so long they’ve gone rotten. Expired food, spoiled medicine, and contaminated water are now part of the aid entering Gaza. And even when it does make it across, it’s barely enough to support a fraction of the starving population.
Gaza has officially run out of clean drinking water and flour.
But instead of pushing for an urgent and lasting ceasefire, the United States is pulling back. Washington has decided to recall its negotiating team from Doha, where talks had been taking place to end the war in Gaza. US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff claimed that Hamas’s latest response
“clearly shows a lack of desire to reach a ceasefire.”
That statement is false and it’s dangerous.
Hamas has repeatedly stated its willingness to negotiate since October 7. The real refusal is coming from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who continues to block all meaningful attempts at ceasefire, with full diplomatic cover from the US.
The claim that Israel is acting in “self-defense” while slaughtering a trapped population suffering from famine is not just dishonest. It is strategic. The narrative being sold is that Hamas is sabotaging peace, when in fact it is Israel and its backers who are orchestrating the collapse of Gaza.
The US now says it will “consider alternative options” to bring hostages home and create “a more stable environment” for Gaza. That language should terrify everyone. Because behind it lies the blueprint for more military escalation, more destruction, and more death, all under the false pretense of peace.
